The curriculum content of the international middle school is based on the final two years of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in Grades 5 and 6. This phase builds on the curriculum from primary school and at the same time introduces them to the middle school; setting the groundwork for later years.
Grades 7 and 8 uses the Cambridge Lower Secondary curriculum. This is a comprehensive programme for this age group which has very clear learning objectives and assessments that prepare students for entry into the final IGCSE years. The students are introduced to the individual subjects which at the end of this phase they can choose from to specialize in for their final exams in middle school.
The International General Certificate in Secondary Education (IGCSE) in Grades 9 and 10 is the culmination of the middle school programme. The IGCSE is a widely recognized and used international curriculum. It is recognized as a valid qualification for 16 year olds in many countries around the world including here in Germany. In this phase the students will select the subjects which they will specialize in and work through the coursework and final exams in Grade 10 which will together form the International Certificate in Education, also awarded to the students. The IGCSE serves as a very good development course for introduction to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme used in the high school.
